DTLLS.co.uk is the home of Joan Patterson Associates DTLLS courses. The site includes access to our DTLLS course information, FAQ’s pages and for students to our Virtual Learning Environment.

Joan Patterson Associates have been delivering tutor training since 2001.

Our teacher / tutor training course delivery team are highly experienced, well qualified and focused on supporting reflective practice. They have all held / hold senior positions in organisations in the lifelong learning sector. They have taught at all levels within this sector and are experienced in working with a range of different ‘types’ of learners.

Staff Profiles

Joan Patterson – Lead Tutor for the DTLLS Training Courses. Course Delivery and Teaching Observations and in-house quality systems review

Joan is a fully qualified teacher and has 30 years experience of working in a diverse range of teaching contexts. This includes work based vocational training, FE Colleges, university courses, community education, the voluntary sector, and the private sector. Joan has been the course leader for Certificate in Education programmes and a range of City and Guilds teaching and assessing qualifications, spanning 20 years.
Joan’s approach to curriculum planning is creative and innovative. She delivers highly interactive learning experiences that challenge and motivate learners to embrace the changes that lead to improvement. Joan’s special interest is curriculum planning and design.

Melanie Armstrong – Course Delivery

Mel brings a wealth of experience in coaching and professional development from her work in industry, particularly in manufacturing and engineering. Mel has worked for Cranfield University on their Manufacturing Management programme. She is an experienced tutor trainer. Mel’s special interest is learning theory and the process of change in the learning journey.

Karen Carroll – Centre Management and NVQ Assessor / IV

Karen is a Licentitiate member of CIPD and an Affiliate of the Institute for Learning. She has recently achieved the CTLLS Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. Karen has had a varied career spanning more than 15 years in human resources, training and development. Karen worked for the Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce as an Investor in People Advisor, and has worked as a Manager and HR Manager in a number of sectors including councils, private companies, NHS and training providers. Karen runs her own business as a consultant and NVQ Assessor and is qualified to A1 and V1. She is currently Centre Manager for Joan Patterson Associates.

Anne McGrath – Course Delivery and Teaching Observations

Anne has worked as a trainer for over 20 years and is qualified to DTLLS level. When delivering her tutor training she can draw on a wide range of experience in the private and public sectors. She has extensive experience of delivering tutor training over a number of years and in a variety of contexts. Anne’s special interest is developing active learning resources.

Noel Patterson – Teaching Observations / IV / Marketing

Noel is a Fellow of the Institute for Learning. He has worked in the FE Colleges sector, Adult & Community Education, work based learning and the private sector for 20 years. Noel’s special interests are group dynamics, virtual learning environments and e-learning.

Nicola Leah – Teaching Observations for PTLLS and DTLLS

Nicola recently completed her DTLLS qualification and has worked for JPA for several years as a tutor, NVQ assessor and IV. Nicola is particularly experienced in the Early Years sector.

Ruth Stretton – PTLLS Course delivery and Observations

Ruth’s experience across all sectors has covered, practical delivery, service management and training. As well as PTLLS delivery Ruth also currently provides training and development in the mental health voluntary sector, this includes work based capacity building, skills and knowledge training, strategic management and team development training.
Ruth is qualified to DTLLS level.
Ruth enjoys working with diverse groups of learners and incorporating their skills and knowledge base in to the learning process.
Ruth’s special interest is the relationship between how people, feel, behave and learn.
