This is a professional teaching qualification and the course requires your active participation and the completion of coursework assignments. Assignments are set by City and Guilds and comprise a theory assignment and a practical assignment. Assessment includes delivering a 20-minute teaching session to the rest of the group. You will need to be able to express yourself effectively both orally and in writing.
The new PTLLS Award has a minimum entry age of 19.
You will need a qualification or experience in the subject area you intend to teach. You also need to demonstrate that you either have English, Maths and ICT qualifications at level 2 (for example GCSE grades A-C) or you are able to show from your experience that you can work at level 2 in these areas.
This nationally recognised City and Guilds qualification is suitable for anyone who is currently working in a training, tutoring or assessing role, or who is entering this profession. It replaces the City and Guilds 7307 Certificate in Teaching Adult Learners, 7407 Certificate in Further Education Teaching; and 7302 Certificate in Delivering Learning.
This is the first stage of the new teaching qualification for those working in FE, Adult Education, Community Education and Work Based Learning. It is increasingly being required for trainers delivering all forms of government funded learning. It is the ‘threshold qualification’ for all new tutors; until PTLLS is achieved new tutors must have their teaching supervised. It is also required for NVQ assessors. This is the first stage to obtaining Qualified Teacher Status in line with LLUK requirements.
